On the bank of the majestic Chao Phraya River

I have chosen a good accomm location again, for this second part of my visit to Bangkok.

River View Guest House is next to the impressive Chao Phraya River, deep in the historic, old, Chinatown area. As I write this I can hear ceremonial singing in the ornate Chinese Buddhist temple directly below.

For $66 a night, it’s good value for a “Dragon Move” room on the 5th floor with a balcony looking out onto a sweeping bend in the river, aircon, TV with Macau Lotus classic movies channel (good to chill out for a while), a little fridge, free chilled drinking water in the foyer to keep topping up your bottles, a large bar fridge in the foyer with reasonable prices should you be hanging out for that late can of Chang or Singha, and a nice rooftop restaurant/bar/lounge on the 8th floor which serves cafe latte English style.

The hotel arranged an early morning airport pick-up for $33 and I was able to check in at 8am for an extra half-day rate… much appreciated after no sleep.

Just $2 gets me a ferry ride to revisit Khaosan Road’s pool table and local friends; the late-night return by tuk tuk is $4.
